Some changes have taken place, but will they be appreciated!

Hi all,

I have recently updated the news area on the site, with the most recent YouTube video. It is all about changes made to the goat enclosure. It covers what and why it has been carried out. Any comments would be much appreciated, along with any subscriptions (which do not cost you anything, it just helps the channel to grow) and a like would be fab. No worries if not, I know that it isn’t every one’s thing. Thankfully, the goats do seem to like the changes and it definitely works well for us.

Anyhow, over the last couple of weeks there have been some highs and lows. Poor old Bobbin (Storm’s kid) has had her udder infection come back. She was prescribed a steroid jab, along with 5 days’ worth of antibiotic jabs. I gave all of these and have had my fingers crossed that this has now kicked the infection, which it seems to have done.

On the goat front, I am now just waiting for the nanny goats to come into season, and they will then be going to meet their new boyfriend. Hopefully, all will go well but we will just have to see. I am eagerly hoping that come March/April time, that we will have the trip trapping of little feet!

The goats have been enjoying the sunshine but not the showers. They hate the rain and run for cover as soon as it starts. The alpacas are not bothered by it unless it is really heavy. They do however, have lovely thick fleeces on so that obviously helps them out.

The alpacas continue to do well. The girls that I am hoping are pregnant are looking good. Their personalities are still a little aloof, so this does seem to be a good sign. I still haven’t got around to cutting Maddy’s feet, I don’t understand why. After all, I am so looking forward to it. However, I will have to bite the bullet this week and get it done. No more excuses! I even use the excuse of picking up poo! I will have to put my big girl pants on and get it done, so next time expect an update on this.

I am glad to say that the chickens are all doing well, in spite of the presence of bird flu in the area. As for bird flu, I am aware that households have been sent letters, advising them to report any birds and to ensure that they are taking the expected precautions if they keep birds. I have been advised that around the Plymouth area, there are quite a few dead birds being found and reported. This is a real concern but we can only do our best to keep it at bay.

In the veg plot, the sprouts are still growing well, along with the kale and spinach. I am just about to plant my elephant garlic, garlic, and onion seeds. I will hopefully be videoing this for YouTube so you could plant along with me.

The recipe I mentioned last time of cheesy mushroom, spinach puff pastry by Whitney Bond was delicious and I will definitely be doing this again.

One of the funny things that happened this week, was when my husband was excited as he heard some scratching in one of our bat boxes. When having a little look to see

if we could see anything, what did we see? Not a bat but a blue tit, looking straight back at us! Nature always finds a way, even in an alternative home!

It just leaves me to say bye for now and I look forward to updating you on our goings on in a couple of weeks. Don’t forget to pop on over to YouTube to see what is going on, and also watch for updates on both Instagram and Facebook. I do try to keep them as up to date as possible.

Take care for now.
